Bayless and Associates Sexual Behavior Treatment Program
Bayless and Associates provides evaluation and treatment for sexually troubled youth. We believe that early identification and treatment of sexually troubled youth offers the realistic hope that national and local child sexual abuse incidence rates can be significantly reduced. Our program works with a broad spectrum of clinical and management issues which include: community protection, interagency cooperation, assessment, and treatment.
Program components:
- Comprehensive psychosexual evaluation. Evaluation includes: 1) Abel Assessment of sexual interests; 2) Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory - A; 3) Intelligence testing; 4) Multi-phasic Sex Inventory - A; and for adolescents reporting a sexual abuse history 5) Sexual Trauma Inventory.
- A six session educational class introduces the adolescent and his family to treatment. The curriculum covers sexual development, child sexual abuse dynamics from the offender and victim perspectives, and orientation to treatment concepts. An exam completes the course.
- Individual, family, and group counseling. Primary intervention assignments are structured to accomplish six objectives that are integral to successfully reducing the adolescent's recidivism risk and enriching his capacity to cultivate intimate relationships. The six objectives are: 1) identifying the pathway to atypical sexual interests and eliminating atypical interest/arousal; 2) confronting cognitive distortions and their behavioral correlates that enable sex offending; 3) developing healthy alternatives to offense cycle that promote intimate relationships; 4) accepting accountability for trauma to primary and secondary victims and to contribute to their healing (when appropriate); 5) developing an intimate support network that is empowered to confront offense cycle logic and behavior; and 6) developing a health cycle which serves as a long-term maintenance program.
- Family support therapists make bi-monthly home visits. This intervention is used to observe familial dynamics in the natural environment and to validate the home environment is as safe as described by the parents and adolescent.
- Post Treatment Assessment After successfully completing the primary intervention assignments, all but the intelligence protocol is repeated and compared to the initial assessment data. Thus, treatment impact is determined by contrasting the pre and post treatment data. Bayless and Associates uses this database to develop empirically based assessment protocol specific to Alternatives to Misbehavior as implemented.
